Since its formation in
1975, the MILLMERRAN AUTO CLUB has catered for many different forms of
Motor Sport. In the beginning it was a matter of finding an old
car, putting a bar in it and you could go racing. We then formed
classes for motor bikes, go-karts and even farm quad-bikes.

As the years have
progressed, the demands of the motor-sport enthusiast have changed and
circuit racing has been replaced by the extremely popular sprint racing.
The success of this form of competition is largely due to its relatively
cheap set-up cost and the relaxed, friendly atmosphere surrounding these
events. Existing race-cars of most shapes, forms or configurations
can compete as well as registered road vehicles. Competitors are
electronically timed over a two lap standing start journey with two cars
-half a lap apart- on the circuit at once. The surface is dirt but
once settled has an extremely grippy nature.
Another great benefit of Sprint Racing is the almost complete absence of
panel damage with any bingles generally being the result of the
individuals own over-enthusiasm. Whilst we appreciate well
presented cars it is not a prerequisite for Sprint Racing.
However, safety standards will not be compromised and sub-standard cars
will not be allowed to compete.
The Millmerran Auto Club in conjunction with The Millmerran Shire Youth
Council has embarked on a Junior Development Driver Training Programme.
This programme not only gives our young drivers a chance to enhance
their driving skills in a safe and controlled environment, it introduces
them to motor sport without the expensive and time consuming experiences
of purchasing and setting-up race cars. The Millmerran Shire Youth
Council has purchased cars suitable for the driver training programme
and the only costs for the participants are Club membership (yearly or
daily), C.A.M.S. licence (yearly) and a small fee to cover Insurance and
fuel costs.
This Club and its venue at Reserve Raceway
located three kilometres from Millmerran boasts excellent facilities for
visiting clubs. Plenty of camping/parking space septic toilets and
a fully equipped canteen make it the ideal spot for an over-night stop
or special stages on rallies.
